The DiskAmigo icon disk companion
for Mac, Windows & Linux.

Every disk, one amigo. DiskAmigo maps each non-removable disk — capacity, drive health, the folders eating space — then clears the clutter: Downloads, node_modules, Cargo targets, caches and Trash. 100% on-device, with ⌘Z undo and a built-in MCP server for AI agents.

01 Disks

Every disk in this Mac.
Capacity and health, in one place.

DiskAmigo treats every non-removable disk as a first-class citizen — the startup SSD and any second internal drive. Each one gets a live capacity bar, a folder-by-folder survey you can drill into, and a drive-health report. No beachballs, and no guessing which volume is full.

  • Every non-removable disk, startup first — capacity, free space and usage
  • Folder-by-folder survey per volume, with largest files and what changed
  • Drive health: SMART verdict, NVMe wear, live read/write
  • External and network volumes stay opt-in as folders you add

02 Developer

The gigabytes hidden in your code.

Every JavaScript project left a heavy node_modules folder behind. Every Rust build buried gigabytes in target/. Every iOS build stacked up in DerivedData. DiskAmigo scours your machine, lists every build tree sized and sorted largest first, and lets you reclaim 10–50+ GB in seconds. The projects stay; dependencies reinstall on demand.

  • Every node_modules, Cargo target, and build cache on your machine
  • Sized and sorted largest first with project paths
  • Trash-only deletion — ⌘Z restores anything instantly

03 Intelligence

The junk identifies itself.

“Old Installers” flags every forgotten DMG, PKG, and ZIP past your threshold — and checks if the app is already installed in /Applications. Large files surface hidden space hogs. Duplicates are identified and verified byte-for-byte by SHA-256 content hash — no guessing, no false alarms.

  • Smart filters: Old Installers (with installed-app detection), Large Files (100 MB+)
  • Duplicates verified byte-for-byte with cryptographic hashing
  • Natural language search: “dmg > 100mb” or “video older than 30d”
  • Optional Smart Safe: AI file verdicts (safe, review, keep) with BYOK

04 Safe

Trash-first. Undo with one keystroke.

DiskAmigo never permanently deletes files during cleanup. Everything moves safely to the macOS Trash with native “Put Back” support. A clear confirmation sheet shows exactly what moves and how much space is freed, and ⌘Z restores everything to original locations. Lingering Trash can also be inspected and purged on demand.

  • Trash-only deletion — no accidental unlinking
  • Inspect and empty lingering Trash eating hidden gigabytes
  • In-session ⌘Z puts every file right back where it was

06 Health

Your drives report for duty.

DiskAmigo reads the physical disk behind each volume with Apple's own tools — SMART status, NVMe wear and spare margin, and the live read/write beat from the block driver. A drive you can see coming is a backup you can take in time.

  • SMART verdict per disk, with a quiet “not reported” when the drive says nothing
  • NVMe percentage used and available spare on Apple SSDs
  • Live read/write throughput sampled from the IOKit registry

08 Privacy

Privacy isn't a feature.
It's the architecture.

DiskAmigo is a native Swift app that scans and cleans entirely on your own disk. No account, no telemetry, no analytics. The first time it touches a protected folder, macOS itself asks for your permission — and the only network call by default is license verification against Polar.

No accountNo analyticsYour folders, your permission

The one optional exception is Smart Safe, off by default: bring your own OpenRouter API key, and only file names, kinds, sizes and ages are ever sent — you control the key and the cost. Without a key, every scan and cleanup runs entirely on your computer.

The app & features

Which platforms does DiskAmigo run on?

macOS 14 and later today, as a native Swift + SwiftUI app. Windows and Linux are in development as native desktop apps built with Tauri and Svelte, sharing the same local-first promises, the same trash-first safety and the same design language. One disk companion, three platforms.

Is DiskAmigo just a cleaner?

No — cleanup is one thing it does. DiskAmigo is your computer’s disk companion: it maps every non-removable disk (the startup SSD and any second internal drive) with capacity, free space and usage, surveys each volume folder by folder, reports drive health (SMART, NVMe wear, live read/write), discovers abandoned developer caches (node_modules, Cargo target, Xcode DerivedData), inspects lingering Trash, and uncovers byte-for-byte duplicates. External and network volumes stay opt-in as custom folders.

Does it work with more than the startup disk?

Yes. Every non-removable, writable volume on your computer is a first-class disk: the sidebar lists them, Disk Usage surveys them and lets you switch between them, drive health follows the disk behind the volume, and the file library, smart filters and duplicates cover them all. Read-only installer or recovery media and removable/network drives are deliberately out — there is no space to manage on media that cannot take a file.

Does DiskAmigo report disk health?

Yes, for the physical disk behind the selected volume. It reads Apple’s own sources — SMART status, media identity and NVMe percentage-used/available-spare, plus live read and write throughput from the IOKit block-driver statistics. All read-only, all local.

What is the built-in MCP Server and how do AI agents use it?

DiskAmigo includes a native Model Context Protocol (MCP) server running on a secure local loopback (127.0.0.1:7743) and an stdio bridge. It lets AI assistants like Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Codex inspect disk usage, analyze storage trends, and request cleanups. Every destructive action requires active in-app human approval by default.

Does DiskAmigo ever delete anything permanently?

Never by default. DiskAmigo operates on a strict trash-first architecture using Apple’s native APIs. Files go to the macOS Trash with Finder “Put Back” support, and ⌘Z instantly restores batches to their exact original locations. Emptying Trash is an explicit opt-in.

Is cleaning developer caches like node_modules safe?

Yes. Directories like node_modules, Cargo target/, and Xcode DerivedData are dependency caches and build artifacts. They are easily regenerated with npm install or cargo build whenever you return to a project. DiskAmigo moves them to the Trash so you can always undo with ⌘Z, and your source code is never touched.

How does DiskAmigo verify duplicate files?

Candidate files that match in name or size are grouped instantly. When verifying contents, DiskAmigo hashes candidate pairs using SHA-256 to confirm true byte-for-byte twins with zero false positives. Nothing is deleted automatically — you choose which copy to keep.

How fast is the scan, really?

The scanner makes a single asynchronous pass over folders with prefetched metadata, so tens of thousands of files are enumerated in well under a second on any modern machine. Memory consumption stays comfortably under 150 MB.

Buying & licensing

How does the launch pricing work?

The lifetime price started at $5 for the first 100 licenses and rises in steps — $9, then $15, then $29 — as seats sell. The pricing card shows the price today, how many seats are left at it, and what it goes to next. The count comes from our server, so it is the real number.

What do I get exactly?

A lifetime license for one computer: every feature in the app, every future update, no subscription and no account. Your license key arrives by email within a minute of buying; you activate it in DiskAmigo → Settings → License.

Can I use it on more than one computer?

One license covers one computer. If you need more seats for several personal or team computers, write to hello@diskamigo.com.

What if I don’t like it?

There is a 30-day refund, no questions asked — simply reply to your receipt email. Checkout and taxes are handled by Polar, so your receipt and refund are proper invoices.

Why isn’t the Mac app on the Mac App Store?

The Mac App Store’s sandbox restricts apps from inspecting system caches, reading developer projects across your home directory, and managing ~/.Trash with ⌘Z undo. DiskAmigo is distributed directly and notarized by Apple so Gatekeeper runs it without warnings.

Privacy & security

What leaves my computer?

No file contents, analytics, or telemetry ever leave your computer. Disk surveys, drive-health reads, duplicate hashing and cleanup happen 100% locally on your machine; the only default network check is verifying your license key with Polar.

How secure is the MCP Server?

The MCP server runs exclusively on the local loopback interface (127.0.0.1) with DNS rebinding protection, Host header allowlisting, and per-agent 256-bit Keychain tokens. External web pages or network devices cannot access it.

What about the Smart Safe AI feature?

It is optional and disabled by default. If you choose to enable it, you bring your own OpenRouter API key (BYOK). Only non-content metadata (file names, sizes, extensions, and ages) are sent to score cleanup safety.

Why does macOS ask for access to my folders?

That prompt is macOS’s native privacy protection asking permission before an application reads a protected directory like Downloads. DiskAmigo only asks for permissions when needed.
